We are home!!! I certainly think that one of the things that I will gain from this experience is a new level of compassion for people who cope with long term illnesses and long term caregiving. I am thankful that God gives us the grace that we need for each day. We are so glad to be home. There are still some kinks to work out, but I know that this is not long term, so we can deal with them. I have also gained a new appreciation for this community and the kindness of the people around us.
Soon we plan to get Gerald a laptop so that he can update you himself, but even if he had one, you wouldn't want to read what a person who has been on pain meds every 3 hours for 10 days would write. Two days ago I walked into his room and his IV was beeping. We usually call the nurse when this happens. Gerald said, "Just hit that red button on the wall there. I've seen the nurses hit it when they need something" . Well, I did and about 4 nurses ran into the room. It was an "All Call" alarm. Needless to say, I'm not going to listen to him for a while!!!
As I was reading all the email prayer requests for us and for others that have gone out during the past 10 days, I was struck the importance of this call to pray. I get overwhelmed when I read them all at one time, but God never feels like it is too much. We serve an awesome God. Don't forget it for a second. Live today to serve Him.

  1. It is such great news that you are finally home!! I hope the transition went as smoothly as possible. Now Gerald, I am counting on you to behave and give your leg the time it needs to heal, ok? Susan, you take care of yourself too and thank you for keeping us updated on what has been happening.
    Love ya,
