Dear Westwood family,
How hard it was to be sitting in a hospital room this morning and know that you were all worshipping together!!! Even as we missed you, we felt your prayers. The procedure was delayed until around 12:30 and now I believe that it was so you could have time to pray first. Everything went great today. The surgeon was very pleased with the condition of Gerald's leg. We are still not sure which procedure they will use to close it, but she sounded hopeful that they could use the less extensive one. Gerald is feeling much better and the outpouring of love from all of you is very humbling. Everyone who comes says "You don't look as bad as I thought you would". Of course, I never thought he looked bad!!
We are still very unsure how long he will be in the hospital. All of that depends on Tuesdays outcome. We are so encouraged by your prayers. Tomorrow we will get a laptop to Gerald and let him tell you himself. There is no place in this world that we had rather be than with our spiritual family. We thank God for you!!!
PS. The next time Gerald asks you to pray that he will be able to "be still" , Don't!!
We love you
Susan

  1. Gerald--I don't care WHAT you look like--I am just so thankful that you are getting better with each passing day. I have been wondering about you being still once you get home--knowing how busy you always are--I guess we'll just have to rephrase our prayers next time :) I am so glad that everything went well today with the leg procedure and I will definitely continue to pray for you! Missed you today at church!
    Love you both--

We're so glad that you are a lot better, and we will never pray for stillness. Ruth asked about you and I have been keeping her posted. Marshall Blalock asked me how you were doing and he had tears in his eyes, every one misses you and loves you. You get better now and hope to see you real soon.
    Love ya Both

  4. Hi Gerald & all,
Wer're so grateful to hear you're feeling better!! You need your rest (is that a word used in the hospital? (:>) - not from my experience). Hope to visit you in a few days when you're feeling much better and the risk of infection is lower.
Our love, Tammy (for the Day's)

  8. Gerald and Susan,
I am so glad to hear that Gerald is doing better. He has been and will continue to be in my prayers. Everyone keeps telling me that he is "determined" to do Dave and my wedding. I just want him to know that the healing of his leg is most important right now! Dave and I both are so blessed to have both of you in our lives. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to call! We love you and miss you! Get well soon! We will continue praying for you!
    Love you both,
    Crystal B.

  9. Gerald,
We missed you at church yesterday (but they did a great job; you'd have been happy).

As much as I would like to see you go home, I hope they keep you until they are sure you're ready to go.I can't imagine you'll get all the rest you need at home, either. Even if no one knew where you lived, I doubt you'd rest enough. But I sincerely hope you'll try.
Someday you might just long to hear us say such things (like rest, don't do anything) again! And then you'll be out of luck : )

  10. Gerald and Susan,
My office here at Person Memorial sits where I can see the emergency vehicles come in and out. Each time they arrive, I don't wonder if it is someone I know but I always know that whoever it is needs a prayer. I remember the ambulance that day during my lunch and looking out my window when I heard the Duke chopper heading out and I offered my prayer, just not knowing that it was for my pastor. It wasn't until later that day when Taylor called me from Lynchburg to see if I knew about Gerald's accident that I put it together. We were all so concerned but we are now relieved to hear of God's protection. We all know of His miraculous healing power and know that no less will be available to you. Heaven's gates are again being bombarded with prayer. We look forward to seeing you back at church. This is when God will teach you much about "patience".
    We love you,
Renita, Taylor, Carson and Jordan Meares

  11. Hi Gerald and Susan,
We have been in fervent prayer for you and also Lisa's and my sister's congregations have joined in praying for you as well.
I confess since that Wed. night you asked for prayer to be still, I have prayed that for you daily....SORRY! Seriously, God know best and He is working all this out for His glory and for your good. Praising the Lord for the progress so far!
Susan, I'll be glad to help in the nursery if needed and anything else I could help with.
Billy says hello and he too is praying.
"GAZE at God, GLANCE at the need, and trust it to HIS all-wise, all-loving care."
    In His Love,
    Sharon P.

  13. Gerald & Susan,

Thank you for this blog. We appreciate the info. I'm sure Gerald is still going through all the cards and video that were delivered yesterday. I hope his lip heals in spite of the smiles, giggles and laughter that they will produce. I forwarded prayer requests to my friends and family far and wide. GCCCBC is praying for you. My aunt in TX and my cousin in KY are praying for you. Your church family is covering your family in prayer.

PS - Tim Bowes said that he will visit when you get home, are immobile and not on pain medication. Said something about singing...

  14. Hey Gerald! Missed you and Susan at church Sunday. Hope you are feeling better. We are praying for a quick recovery. I hope you got to see the UNC football game Saturday night even though they lost. It would have been nice to see Connor Barth kick that field goal at the end of the game. I believe they would have won the game if he had the opportunity to kick it. Maybe next time.
    GO HEELS!!
If there's anything you and Susan need, feel free to call me anytime.
    Love you both,
    Mark Blalock
