Sermon Follow Up:
Ultimately this is the message of Hebrews: Consider Him! Consider Him who is the radiance of the glory of God, the exact imprint of His nature, and who upholds the universe by the word of His power. Consider Him who suffered on the cross for us, was raised from the dead, and now rules with supremacy and power, and is our great faithful and sympathetic High Priest before the Father, interceding on our behalf. Keeping our eyes on Him and constantly considering Him enables us to run the race of faith with endurance and not lose heart.
This is the theological and doctrinal foundation upon which we run this race of faith. Following are the practical steps of application i mentioned in Sunday’s sermon. It would be good if you could take time to do this before your Lifegroup meets this week.
Take time for a personal retreat: During the week get away with God, your Bible, a pad and pen.
During this time consider and journal the following:
1. With thankfulness acknowledge those who ran before you and those who run with you. Thank God for them. Go to them and thank them for the encouragement they give you as you run.
2. With honesty ask yourself: Is it helping me run well and farther – if not get rid of it.
3. In humility and obedience lay aside the entangling sins through acknowledgement, repentance and confession.
4. In community share what God shows you and what He’s leading you to do. Get the members of your lifegroup to pray for you and with you in these issues.
5. With resolve run the race, keeping your eyes of Jesus and your confidence in Him. What He has started in your life He will be faithful to complete. (Philippians 2:13, Hebrews 13:21)
