Hymns

I love hymns that are rich and deep in Scriptural truth.  Thankfully recent years have seen a revival of sorts in hymns and hymn writing.  Individuals such as Keith Getty and Stewart Townend have produced modern hymns that are beautiful musically and scripturally robust.  Other artists and organizations such as Indelible Grace Music and Red Mountain Church have made it their mission and ministry to recover, rewrite and reintroduce hymns of faith from long past.

I enjoy reading and singing these old Hymns.  Occasionally I also enjoy rewriting them into more comfortable language, rhythm and meter.

The following is based on Soul, What Return Has God, Thy Savior by Karl F. Lochner (1673)

O soul, today what do you have
to give to Christ your holy King?
For all He gives you day by day?
O soul, what offering will you bring?
What can you give that pleases Him?
He wants from you your all, your best.
O soul, today what do you bring
To give to Christ your holy King?

Who else receives your best first love?
Has Satan shed his blood for you?
His plans and schemes they are not new,
His lies pay only pain and hell.
To You alone O Lord divine,
My heart, my all, I now resign.
This is the gift that You require,
My heart, my soul, O gracious God.

Whom should I give my all, my love?
To you who gave Your Son, Your Best!
To Thee I willingly assign,
My heart, dear Lord, for it is Thine.
Your covenant love my only shield,
Lord, You have loved me unto death.
Lord, with You I shall ever be
One heart throughout eternity.
