Blind Faith?
I don't believe in any such thing. Mark Twain may have said, “faith is believing
what you know ain’t so”, and as humorous as his quip may be, it is not
true.
Genuine faith is not without substance. It has a basis, a foundation. Faith is built on certain beliefs or
convictions. We know something, or believe
something to be true. This is the basis
of faith.
In the Gospel of John the word believe is used 98
times. In fact John tells us he wrote
this gospel “so that you may believe
that Jesus is the Christ, and that by believing
you may have life in his name.” (Jn 20:30)
This Monday morning I am praying for specific individuals
whom I know don't know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. I’m praying that they will know who Jesus is
and have life in him by believing.
This Monday morning I am praying for bothers and sisters in
the faith who are grieving the loss of loved ones. They’re beginning this week differently that
any other week of their lives. I am
praying that their faith will not be blind or weak, but will instead be
sustained as they continue knowing and believing that Jesus is “the
Resurrection and the Life’. (Jn 11:25)
I am praying for some who are beginning what could be a
difficult week of physical issues for themselves or family members. I am praying that their faith will remain
strong as they grown in the knowledge that Jesus who has overcome this
trouble-filled world sustains and strengthens his own. (Jn. 16:33)
I am praying for new believers I know who are just beginning
their walk with Christ and learning new truths that will be the foundation of
their faith. I am praying that their
faith will grow and be sustained throughout a lifetime and into eternity as
they grow in their knowledge of and love for “the only true God, and Jesus
Christ whom you have sent.” (Jn. 17:3)
This morning I am praying for my church family, and my
extended family of faith, that we will go through this week abiding in Christ
and bearing the fruit of faithful lives that magnify Christ to others and
glorifies God.
Have a faith-filled week.
