“if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.”
In reference to this verse T.M. Moore writes:
“Would you let your kid play on a baseball team where the hitting coach insisted that the only thing that really mattered was being able to bunt well? If, batter after batter, every kid was even laying down the perfect bunt, sooner or later, they will get clobbered, your kid will go home crying, and you’ll be left preaching to him about the virtues of good bunting. You can’t help it if those mean kids on the other team only seem to care about winning.
So why do we go to churches where we’re taught that truth—truth, for crying out loud—is the spiritual equivalent of bunting? Sure, we need some good bunters in the church. But truth is a 40-ounce Louisville Slugger waiting for muscled-up spiritual power-hitters to knock a few out of the park. Let the enemies of truth master the art of bunting. God has called us to hit for the cycle, game after game, until the truth of God takes root in every area of life and the knowledge of His glory begins to inundate our communities with peace, justice, goodness, beauty—and truth!” http://www.breakpoint.org/features-columns/archive/1229-the-pillar-and-buttress-of-truth
We’ll examine I Tim. 3:15 this Sunday. Come join us in worship and hear more about being a Spirit-filled, Truth-swinging power hitter!
